Sometimes being here annoys me. I hate the heat, the traffic, the dirt and dust, how everything takes so long. Other days, like today, I have such a tenderness for this place. Its a quiet feeling, deep and warm, when I look around and feel comfortable, when Im amused and proud of the folks on the street, when somehow even though Im an outsider, I fit in.
The electricity has been going nuts here. Thats a problem generally, and only really matters for the laptop. We use a voltage converter as well as a regulator, and for the last few days, its been exploding with a sharp loud beeping noise, indicating that the energy levels are too damn high for the machine. THe fans flux slow and fast, our poor frig and radio are getting fried by the day. I dont really understand why they cant get the energy to stay at a constant level. One of those mysteries of Accra.
Ive been on the hunt all afternoon for the FanIce man, a guy on a bike who sells sachets of frozen yogurt. He also sells corn muffins, which is what I really want, with our dinner of black bean chili tonight. But like the paper guy, whenever Im searching for him, I cant find him.
Its been a slow, relaxed day where I do whatever strikes my fancy. Such a luxury.
Life has been so nice with Jeremy. Im not at all productive, and havent even finished my resume yet. But I feel happy and that's pretty damn cool.
Love to all. More later.

I feel like I've got some sort of hay fever/allergies going on. I thought it was a cold that I've been fighting since Saturday, but today its mostly watery eyes, wet and drippy nose, congestion headache and sneezing. Sounds like allergies to me. Hopefully the echinachea and vitamin C will do something because Im getting sick of blowing my nose.
Let's see. This weekend we had a bbq to see some of our friends. Most were out of town, but the Dutch constituency showed up and we grilled, hung out and talked. It was fun, despite the dirty dishes full of meaty chunks. I can tell I've been a vegetarian for a while. The meat really smelled like icky dead things to me and I could barely wash them. I even boiled water to do the dishes. Blech.
Yesterday I didnt do much. I worked out hard for the first time in months. I cleaned the house a little. We watched a movie on the laptop and made soup. I didnt leave the house once.
Today, though, I had to run a few errands so Im out and about. Nothing new to report otherwise. Except Jeremy is awesome and I love that boy. And Im a little sick. MOre later...
