In case any of y'all have been trying to call me, my phone is completely messed up. For some reason, despite not being able to receive calls or emails, the computer still works. Go figure. While the phone's down, Im having bellsouth fix my name on my email, so after tomorrow, when they come to the house and fix my problem, I should again have my real last name.
First off, happy day to Riley and Nancy and Josh. Wish I could have been at the baptism today to meet you, but hopefully I can see you when we come home in December. I've been so busy lately, but I didnt forget you. Im just a little late in getting out a card and book.
The library is still going well. When I started there, I made the choice to express interest in the Teen programs they had at my branch. Yesterday, I learned that the guy who heads them now (John, who reminds me sooooo much of Jeremy's dad), wants to hand it off by next year. They think Im a perfect candidate because I seem so young and enthusiastic. Quite frankly I think its because nobody else wants to do it. I attended the Teen Advisory Board meeting and good lord what energy!!! The kids were off on a million tangents, eating mass quantities of sugar and giggling. Im not quite sure what Ive got myself into, but we'll see.
Last night I went to see the Dresden Dolls at the Echo Lounge. It was a particularly long day, and I debated not going, but went alone anyway. Im so glad I did. It turned out to be one of the best shows Ive seen.
The opening bands were good, and golly the people watching was fabulous. All the goth kids came out full force, along with a belly dancer, a gal with a huge parasol and this guy who dressed all in black, stood in the corner with a black umbrella with fake flowers on the floor and a basket of peppermint candies. He didnt speak, he just stood there. Oh-kay.
Anyway, Dresden Dolls are two folks--a gal and a guy--from Boston, who are dramatic and dark and funny and skilled. Plus, they both have bodies from hell so they were dreamy to stare at. The crowd's energy flew out of control, especially during a cover of Black Sabbath's "War Pigs," which I dare say was better than the original. One of the best parts is that the guy (the drummer and sometimes guitarist) is a mime. Well, he talked at the show, so he's not a REAL mime, but part of his schtick was to be a mime. A freaking MIME! I LOVE mimes! It was like my own little wet dream version of a band. Smart, feminist lyrics with melodic loudness and lots of passion. And a really good mime who took his shirt off and had uber-fabulous arms. Prrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.
After the encore, the show didnt end until 2:30 am. By the time I drove home, changed and went to bed, it was after 3:30 am. I barely woke up in time to get to work today at the library. It was busy, and by the end of it I was beat. I was supposed to get together with a friend, but she wasnt answering her phone. Instead I went shopping at Kohl's and bought a pink skirt, a black shirt and two new bras. I needed some therapeutic shopping. Ive been feeling a little low self-esteemy lately. It doesnt help that Im missing all of Jeremy's nice things he says to me. I dont have anyone telling me that Im pretty or desirable or good. I know these things, and hate that Ive become the kind of person who needs to hear such things daily, but boy Im about to start going up to strangers and asking them to compliment me before I hug them. Im so attention deprived.
Well, off to bed. Good night.
