Has it really been four months since I posted? Damn this sculpture class! It's taken over my life. It seems like every minute that I have, I spend researching or working on my project. Only three more weeks (one last project) and I'm done. It's been a really frustrating process since most of the students are these young kids who've never taken an art class before. They don't offer anything of value during the critiques, they dont show up for class, they don't try very hard for projects. It sucks. Plus I think I really wanted something else out of the class other than a general introduction. Three more weeks.
We've had this giant guinea fowl come around our apartment for the last few weeks. It's as big as a turkey and makes these crazy loud honking squeaking noises. No one seems to notice the damn thing--they walk right by, even when it's caterwauling. I don't know where it lives, or why it's loose, but it makes me so happy. It's just like the free range sewer chickens that lived in Ghana---but here in Minneapolis! We've taken a bunch of photos and spend way too much time looking at it when it stands by our windows. Today was the first time that Squeak's seen it--he was sitting on the windowsill. He was excited too! (We took a photo of them--since we live in the basement and it was sunny this morning, the bird couldn't see in our windows. We got extra close-up. I can email you photos if you want to see them.)
We've been knee-deep in a heat wave this week as well. It's been in the 80's every day (a little too hot too early for my tastes, but it's better than snow). I keep hoping we'll get some good thunderstorms, but not yet. One of the greatest perks of living here is that we're five minutes away from about five big lakes surrounded by walking paths. Herds of folks have come out to enjoy the weather as they walk, and two nights ago it was particularly beautiful. The sun sank into the horizon, spreading red and purple streaks through the sky. The cityline reflected in the lake. I turned to Jeremy and said, "We live in a postcard!"Otherwise, things are busy but good. Jeremy presented at the college and it seems pretty hopeful that he'll still get the part-time teaching job this fall and spring. He keeps applying to temp agencies and libraries, but no one's biting. Work is fine and I'm due for a raise now that my probation is over. We're going to Trish's house for Easter sunday with the "family" so that should be fun. We're mailing off the summer wedding picnic party invitations today...so they'll be coming in the mail soon. We're having the Mobile Chef provide the food, and we'll have good beer and fun summer activities. I hope everyone has a good time.
I'll try to write more often....have a great weekend and Happy Easter!
